Happy 1 year anniversary to us!!

Kirstin and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary on Sunday November 22, 2009. We woke up, had a great breakfast at Matt's Big Breakfast downtown, our fav breakfast resturaunt, spent the day shopping for a new clock, and had an amazing dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Scottsdale.

I can't believe how fast a year has gone, and I couldn't imagine a single moment of my life without having Kirstin in it. It's weird, but it feels like she's been there all along. I love her so so so much!

I finally got around to posting our wedding photos up on our website. Go check them out in the gallery page of www.azhappilyeverafter.com.

TLC "My First Home" audition

posted Oct 12, 2009 2:24 PM by Micah Elliot   [ updated Oct 12, 2009 2:31 PM ]

Kirstin and I are auditioning for a new TLC show called My First Home. Throughout our entire home-buying process in the past 7 months, we've been EXTREMELY lucky, especially in the economic and housing downturn as of late. We had very minimal issues when buying a house, and we were blessed enough to come out on top. So we felt we had a great story to tell to the world.

TLC called our real estate agents, the amazingly talented Real Estate Twins, and told them they were looking for a unique, creative couple that had recently bought a house from them. They had previous involvement in a show created by HGTV which aired several years ago, and knew that they had experience in doing one of these "reality" home-buying programs. They suggested us, and I got a call from one of TLC's casting directors, telling me all about what they were looking for in a couple.

With this new show, they wanted to steer away from the usual boring, cookie-cutter, suburban middle class family, and feature a couple that was a little more "colorful" that their usual participants. Well, we can do colorful. Below, is our entry video. They wanted us to talk about what we were looking for in a house and the all-around home buying experience, so we had to reenact a little. It's about 7:42 long, so give it some time to load. We also included some goofy outtakes at the end, but be forewarned, I am a total dork.

Along with our video, TLC wanted a clip of our real estate agents talking about what it was we were looking for in a house. The show is a reenactment type of deal, so we had to approach these videos as if we had just decided that we were going to buy a house. This video is set up as if we had just talked to them and we're approaching the task of searching for a house.

Also, if it was too quick for you to catch, at the very end when we're talking about Tyler Durden and his Fight Club antics, when I snap my fingers, I spliced in this little brainwasher for 7/100ths of a second.

We've sent off the videos to the TLC casting agents, and we're just waiting to hear back from them. Keep your fingers crossed for us! If they choose us for the show, we'll be filming around January. Stay toasty!

Clean Pool... Finally!

posted Oct 2, 2009 3:13 PM by Micah Elliot   [ updated Oct 7, 2009 2:17 PM ]

Our pool has been in dire need of some serious attention for probably about the last 15 years or so. When we bought the house, the pool looked like it had been neglected for a while. I've been doing my best trying to keep up with putting in chemicals, cleaning about once a week, and just trying to maintain something resembling a swimming pool. It's definitely been a lot of hard work, but I love that we have a pool, and I'm completely dedicated to it.

Lucky for us tho, we have talented, and knowledgeable people in the family who love us so much (You are the best of the best Frank & Angee!!) they are willing to travel from BFE to hold our hand in pool maintenanceville. As a house warming gift, Kir's cousins, who coincidentally own a pool cleaning business, totally hooked us up with a free draining/acid wash/refill! Just in time for our little birthday get together we're having this weekend for Kirstin and my good buddy, Lou. Temperatures are dropping out here, but this happened on one of the last weekend's it's still warm enogh to swim. Woohoo!!

Here's what it looked like when we bought the house. We're lucky we didn't find any dead presents floating around baking in the sun.

New and improved! Now with a fresh start!

My b'bs is a delicate and sentamental flower wen it comes to her p.o.s. Ford. She's had it since 2001, and she's been carting the thing around like a stinky old noonie. Happily, and after only 3 dealership trips, she found a great, used 2006 Hyundai Elantra that not only fit right into her budget, but won't suck $1,200 a year in upkeep costs. It's a pretty nice little ride. I get to drive it tonight. Hooray us!

Luckily, she was able to get a trade-in, although we still have no idea why. The thing barely got her home safely from work every day. It had been sitting at an auto mechanic's for about a week and a half, and she needed to get all of the rest of her stuff out before they hauled it off. I told her to get a last picture, but she forgot. Below is my rendition of that brief last moment together.

A Shady Labor Day

posted Sep 8, 2009 11:42 AM by Micah Elliot

For Labor Day, the wifey and I packed up the Magnum, and headed down to old Bisbee to help our friends Spring & Larry celebrate their special matrimonials. We stayed at the Shady Dell Trailer Park, because everyone knows that you really aren't partying, unless you're drinking in a trailer park next to an old cemetary. Granted, the trailer we stayed in couldn't have been bigger than maybe 10' x 5', and Kirstin is now wiser learning the hard way that she owns the very hairsyle that atracts bats the most, but what memorable family outing hasn't come with some sort of unplanned incident?
